Good Morning All,
It feel amazing waking up to bright sunshine here in the UK. Unfortunately were not blessed with great weather most of the time so being a typical Brit, were out in force with a sniff of the sun.
I thought my next post should give you an insight into a typical day for a health enthusiast such as myself. You can decide for yourself whether I’ve gone overboard or do you think ‘is that all you do’. Either way I’ve spent a long time building on my research and advice to get to this daily routine. Let’s find out.
5 am – During the working week I usually get up at this time. Your probably thinking are you serious but I find it pretty normal now to wake at this time. I even wake up a few minutes before my alarm goes off sometime so I can switch it off and not disturb my wife. I don’t hang around as the likeliness is that you would just turn over and get comfy and fall back to sleep. I give my wife a kiss (super important) and jump out of bed and brush my teeth then go into another room to do my daily mediation for about 15 minutes. Yes Rael has gone woo woo and for very good reason. Possibly one for another post as this is critical to your general well being in the short and long term.
5.30 am – I get into my gym kit and head down stairs to prepare my food and drink for the day. To summarise for now, this includes a flask of Bulletproof coffee, a smoothie, my bottle of filtered water and a small meal. At the moment this is a tasty salad. While preparing this I will have my daily pint of warm water with lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, salt and cayenne pepper (not too much though. Can give you fire in the belly with wrong doses)
6.15 am – I arrive at gym to do a workout. I always warm up for a few minutes followed by the main body of my workout that usually lasts no longer than 30 minutes. I finish with 10 minutes of stretching
7 am – Head home to shower and change for work
7.30 am – Kiss wife (do you see the pattern?) and jump in the car to work. My commute is around an hour so I either have a chat with my Bestie where were like a pair of old women putting the world to right or I listen to an audio book or podcast. These are always health and personal development related. Definitely no radio.
8.30 am – Arrive at work and do my morning preparation. This includes assessing what my most important tasks are for the day and planning it out. In my finance manager role my day changes continuously so it is important to ensure I always have a plan of attack with a little wriggle room for emergencies.
1 pm – I try to find time to head out for a 30 minute walk to clear my head of numbers and another 10 to 15 minutes of mediation. This allows me to get back into work being fully present and focused for my afternoon. Again this seems excessive but I’ve been living this for a while and really is a powerful tool for increased productivity and reduced stress.
5.30 pm – My work day does fluctuate with finish times so I’ve just gone with an average finish time assuming I’m not logging on from home which I avoid where possible.
6.30 pm – Arrive home after another learning session in the car with podcasts and audio books. I might as well make good use of the time in the car and in fact I love this me time. It’s important that when I get home I have switched off from work and be fully present when I walk into see my wife and kids. Not easy at times.
The rest of the evening consists of having a nice meal and spending time with my wife. We love to chill out on the sofa and watch a few programs together while to kids hit the Xbox’s in their bedrooms. You parents out there know what I mean. I’m even guilty of watching Love Island. Now I do know that I’m being judged
I usually go to bed at 10 pm. This is a balance between making sure I get enough sleep to function properly the next day and being Mr boring by going to bed too early. Due to my lifestyle choices I function really well on 6.5 to 7 hours sleep. Anything less than 6 hours will impact my performance the next day so it’s super important to understand what works for you.
I hope that was really useful for you and some of you will be thinking ‘are you kidding’. These changes didn’t happen overnight but over time you implement a small change and stick with it until it becomes a habit. Usually around 66 days. This has been scientifically proven. If one of the changes does not work for you then stop and try something else. I could write a separate post for every part of my daily routine. Everything I’ve set out is summarised to ensure I don’t bore you to death.
If you enjoyed reading this please let me know. If you want to learn more, please let me know. This is the top of the iceberg I promise you.
Have an amazing day all
Rael
